What To Expect When We Are Expecting!

As a  prospective puppy parent, you may have a gazillion questions like what kind of puppy food do we use or when does our puppy join our family? We got you covered here! This isn’t everything, just a guide of what we do. We may update this along the way.

  • We are a working farm so have patience on a response or pictures!

    • Life gets in the way and we may have to veer from what you read below.

    • Have patience here too please!

  • We start by announcing our upcoming litter.

  • We talk on the phone to prospective puppy parents

    • We will never sell or place a puppy based on text messages. Ever.

    • You learn about us. We learn about you.

    • If you have never owned a Bloodhound we encourage you to learn about them before purchasing one. They are NOT like any other breed.

  • If a puppy will be joining your family, you will complete a digital puppy reservation form.

    • The information is what AKC requires us to have on site.

    • We do not sell the information you provide, it stays with us on site.

    • You must agree to the teams of our contract/warranty when completing the reservation form.

    • The reservation page has a link to our contract/warranty .

  • Puppies have a contract with a 2 year health warranty

    • It can be found HERE.

    • When you complete the reservation form, you will agree to the terms of the contract/warranty prior to placing a deposit.

    • We will sign the actual  contract/warranty when you get your puppy.

      • We do this digitally and a copy will be emailed to you for your records.

  • A deposit will reserve your placement, not a conversation.

    • A deposit can be made with PayPal.

      • We currently only accept Friends and Family with PayPal.

    • A deposit can be made with Cash App

    • A deposit can be made with Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart.

      • You make the deposit at your Wal-Mart and we pick it up at ours.

        • Wal-Mart charges a service fee.

        • We can give you easy to follow instructions if you choose this.

    • A deposit can me made with Western Union.

      • This is similar to Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart.

    • A deposit can be made with a check or money order.

      • This can be made out to The Dam Lodge Bloodhounds and mail to us.

  • The deposit is non-refundable and it’s on a specific litter.

    • Puppy selection is in the order deposits are received.

    • We reserve the right to have 1st selection on all litters.

    • We cannot guarantee gender, color or size. These are beyond our control.

    • We do not hold you to your preference of gender or color.

    • If your preference is a female, you can change your mind to a male when it’s your turn to choose. Same with color.

  • If another puppy is available from another litter born at the same time, you can make a lateral move to the litter.

    • Your selection will be after those already on the list.

    • You cannot move a deposit to a future unborn litter.

  • When puppies are born and doing well, we will post them on our web-page.

    • If you have a prepaid deposit, you will be given the link.

    • Pictures will be updated often so save the link.

    • After puppy selection, we will text you pictures of your puppy from there on out.

    • We will give you pup-dates and milestones of your wee-one.

  • Puppy selections are made when the puppies are about 2 weeks old.

    • Puppy selection is in the order the depots are received.

    • If you do not make your selection we will go to the next name on the list.

    • We will give your picture 2 or 3 times a week minimum.

    • You will probably get more pictures, but we do have other responsibilities to tend too. We are sure you understand!

  • We do not pose or hold your puppy for pictures.

    • What you see on our website, Facebook and Instagram is the type of pictures you will see.

    • If your puppy falls asleep in a box, that is what you get.

    • Never posed. Ever.

  • Puppy food begins around 3 weeks old.

    • It consists of warm soaked puppy food, canned puppy food, yogurt, drenched in warm puppy milk.

    • It starts out pretty wet and the puppies readily lap it up.

    • Over time, the consistency goes from soft and then firm.

    • By the time your puppy comes home to you, they will be on hard puppy food.

    • We use Diamond Naturals, All Stages

      • This can be used on 6 weeks old up to seniors

      • Great if you have a multi -dog family.

  • Feeding your puppy.

    • If you cannot free feed, feed until full.

    • Fill up the puppy’s bowl.

    • If your puppy eats it all, add more. Repeat if needed.

    • When the puppy walks away, pick up the remaining food.

  • Puppies are conditioned to go potty on pine shavings (NOT cedar).

    • We suggest placing pine shavings in the place you want them to potty.

    • Take the puppy out on a lead to the “spot” and not wander around the yard.

    • Encourage the puppy to go like you do a child being potty trained.

    • Stay in that spot until your puppy goes potty.

    • Celebrate your puppy when he/she succeeds.

    • We always praise with Scooby Snacks.

  • Positive reinforcement goes a long way!

    • Negative training gets negative responses.

    • Raise and praise your puppy!

  • We are working on a link with lots of memes and links for help you succeed in raising your new family member.

    • Give us time, it's a lot of information!

  • Puppies will get a checkup from our trusted vet.

    • It is up to the vet when a puppy is released.

    • This is generally after they are 8 weeks old.

    • Puppies can only be picked up or delivered after being released.

  • Puppies can be picked up from our farm.

    • We practice bio-security measures so puppies can only be picked up from our driveway.

    • Pick-ups are scheduled along with our delivery schedule.

  • Puppies can be delivered.

    • We have a limited free courtesy delivery.

    • The free courtesy delivery is at OUR convenience.

    • The free courtesy delivery schedule is based on the reservation address given to us.

    • Please do NOT ask us to waiver from the schedule. We are doing it as a courtesy.

    • We will make the schedule AFTER the puppies are 5 weeks old.

    • This is not 5 weeks and 5 minutes, so have patience. We have a working farm and life takes precedence.

    • We can also help arrange air or ground transportation.

    • We will handle all the documentation needed for delivery.

    • We are NOT a doggie daycare and cannot keep your puppy past the delivery schedule.

    • Please make arrangements with us if an alternative adult will be picking up your puppy.

  • We CANNOT watch your puppy when you are on vacation.

    • Please contact a family member or doggie care facility.
